Rent, Burial Insurance and Coal: Working Class Lambeth and the 1911 Census
Genealogists are very good at collecting people for their trees – but how much do you really know about the day to day realities of life for your family in 1911? This lecture is an examination of living conditions in a respectable working class district and the day to day struggle of bringing up a family and making ends meet on the low wages common at the time. We visit the work of the Fabian Society and Charles Booth to see what life was really like for the people to be found on the 1911 census in Lambeth.
