Irish records at The National Archives
Less than a century ago Ireland was part of the United Kingdom, so most of our Irish ancestors were technically British, whether they liked it or not.
As a result, many of their records are in The National Archives (TNA) of the UK, onsite and, increasingly, online. Some are specifically Irish, like the Royal Irish Constabulary; others simply include many references to Irish people.
There are many documents in The National Archives that can help you trace your Irish ancestors. We shall explore some of these hidden treasures, and in the course of your research you might uncover even more.
