The ‘Memorystore’, bringing business history to the community
The Memorystore presentation will focus on the way community archives can bring benefits to local groups, business, school children, life long learners and as part of reminiscence therapy. This project at John Lewis began in 2002 with the creation of an on-line educational resource for children covering a variety of subjects including working lives, gadgets and a virtual house, using material from the John Lewis archive collection.
In 2007 the project developed to include a community archive based at Trewins of Watford. This pilot website is run by a group of retired staff and developed to include information about shop and the local area. Following its success a second site, the Robert Sayle Memorystore, was launched in Cambridge last year.
