An over-reliance on the Man in Green - or why we don’t really need Robin Hood
For much of the past century, Nottingham’s historic identity has been defined almost exclusively by Robin Hood. Yet Nottingham has played a largely forgotten but vital role in the wars, coups and revolutions that have shaped the countries overall personality. Our local heroes and villains were anything but local, the ripple effect of their lives being felt internationally. From King Richard I siege of Nottingham Castle to the First World War this talk will profile an array of forgotten soldiers, radicals, clergymen and criminals that have made Nottingham one of the best kept secrets in Great British history.
